In 2013-2014 the school pooled the money it received from the PE and Sport Grant with other schools in the Hemsworth Pyramid to purchase the services of a Specialist PE teacher for the academic year.
This has enabled all the teachers at the school to have continuous professional development once a week during a PE session for a term. The Specialist PE teacher has modelled lessons, worked alongside our teachers and supported the PE subject leader in developing the subject further in school. She has also been responsible for organising inter-school sports competitions within the Pyramid and further afield.
This has resulted in class teachers having a broader skills base for teaching PE independently, schemes of work for PE have been developed and the profile of PE has been raised in school. A significant number of children have taken part in the extra-curricular sports competitions and there is a greater awareness of a range of different sports across the school.
In 2014-2015 the school has, once again, pooled the money it received from the PE and Sport Grant with the other schools in the Hemsworth Pyramid to purchase the services of a Specialist PE teacher for the academic year.
Continuous professional development and attendance at inter-schools competitions remain at the heart of the programme. This year there is also an emphasis on developing the range of After School sporting activities that the school can offer. During the autumn term two members of staff have received this training - one is leading a Netball Club and the other is leading an Adventure Club.
For the third year running the school has continued to work in partnership with the other schools in the Hemsworth Pyramid by employing a Specialist PE teacher to work across the schools. This partnership is having a very positive impact upon the numbers of children and range of out of school activities the children are taking part in.
